Day off

What do you do when your husband has the day off?
Go exploring, of course!

Dan finished his first session of teaching last week, can you believe how time flies? We set off to explore and celebrate; hitting up the health food store in Birmingham and Tannehill State park, which in its prime created iron for the South during the Civil War.

We found what you might imagine to be the 'real Alabama', you know the houses and scenery that look like they could be on the set of Hatfields and McCoys, or is it the other way around- that this place is so 'southern', the movie nailed it right on the head? Either way we found it.

Will the real Alabama please step forward.

We also found the hipsters. I have to say I miss the skinny jean wearing, nose pierced, reduce, reuse, recycle folks. They are all hiding out in Birmingham apparently, congregating at the chain health food store "Whole Foods", oh how I wish they would come to Tuscaloosa. The hipsters and the health food store.

Since diving deeper and deeper into the movement of 'whole foods' or rather the reawakening of what it means to be healthy we have discovered lots, including how pricey things can be. But this is a little over the top. No, we did not indulge.

Here are some other treasures we found romping through the park.

Beautiful eh? Just for the record it was 85 degrees yesterday on the 14th of October and we both wore tanks and Chacos.

  1. What a lovely day off! So glad you made it to whole foods, and I think it would be sad to be sans-hipsters (I fit the bill for your description). Have you noticed an emerging subculture in Alabama yet?

  2. I've yet to observe a large sub culture, maybe there is a small one that doesn't watch football? Or maybe that is just us :) And yes I suppose you do fit the bill for our definition of hipster. We would be sad without you too.
